May 18, 2015

Greece ranks as one of the top tourist destinations with a wide range of attractions to offer. These range from natural beauty, long stretches of beaches, historical sites, vibrant nightlife and consistent sunny summer weather. Before travelling for your holiday or business trip, it is important to understand a number of travel requirements to help prepare adequately thus making your travelling successful. Below are some quick facts you should know before travelling:
Visa requirements

Greece is party to the Schengen Agreement which means that you have to follow the standard European visa procedure. US citizens are allowed into the country for 90 days for business or as tourists without a visa. However, the visitors’ passports should be valid for at least 90 days beyond the intended stay period. US diplomatic passport holders are required to obtain a visa prior to their travelling in order to enter the country.

Customs

Due to its historic heritage, many visitors normally seek to export antiquities out of Greece. However, it is important to note that this is illegal and even rocks from archeological spots should not be exported out of the country. When buying antiquity, make sure it is not illegal and obtain an official receipt for your purchase. Additionally, visitors above the age of 18 are allowed to import 250g of tobacco or 50 cigars, 100 cigarillos or 250 cigarettes, ¼ liter of cologne, 2 liters of wine or 1 liter of alcohol beverage. Gift articles valued at 30.81 EUROs are also allowed for those aged 18 and above or 16.14 for children under the age of 15.

Currency and bank services

Greece uses euro as her currency. While visitors are allowed to enter the country with any amount of money, ATMs are readily available for withdrawals in different places including tourist areas. Visitors can easily use Visa card or MasterCard to withdraw money from the ATMS.

Airport security

The war against terror has necessitated the introduction of different security measures by European Union in many airports. Unlike in the past, all liquids and other stuffs carried to the airport must be examined at security checkpoints when entering or leaving Greece. There is a restriction on the amount of liquids or perfume products to be carried while travelling through the airports.

What to carry

As mentioned earlier, Greece is known for her favorable summer (May to September) weather. However, the country also experiences winter spells and visitors are advised to prepare adequately for both seasons depending with the time of travel. During summer, you should bring with you items such as sunblock, sunglasses, a hat, saddles and shorts among others. Umbrellas and raincoats will work well during summer season

There are limitless places to visit in Greece with over a dozen UNESCO World Heritage Sites and historic towns offer. Holidaymakers can visit Greece throughout the year as the country is always favorable for vacationing.
